Bob and Elaine Lehman's Background
Bob and Elaine Lehman have been educators, co-publishers, co-authors, co-hosts of a radio show, and activists. Elaine Lehman is a former teacher from Baltimore, Maryland, with nearly 20 years of teaching experience with all ages, including adults. Bob Lehman was the lead rocket engine specialist for Rockwell, International, and worked for 21 years on the Delta Satellite Program at Cape Canaveral before he and Elaine started their two schools for antisocial teens in 1977.
From 1977–1983, Bob and Elaine co-founded and directed two schools for antisocial teens. The Lehman's two schools ended up with a documented 100% success rate of the graduates for the five years of the follow-up study, and an 80% success rate of those who did not graduate.
From 1989 -1992, Bob and Elaine Lehman co-founded a statewide organization in Oregon, called, BUST, Break Up System's Troubles. BUST was aimed at getting the broad, vague child abuse laws changed to clear, specific laws. Too many good parents were having children removed for a reasonable spanking, a disciplinary slap or for false allegations of physical or sexual abuse. BUST also exposed the many dreadful problems of the children's service division.
As a result of the work BUST did, the Oregon state legislature had a $200,000 study done of the children's service agency. In June, 1992, the study group submitted a scathing report that said all of the same things the Lehmans had been saying all along. The legislature changed some laws, fired the director and changed the name of the agency. Unfortunately, they did not change the right laws, due to losing federal funding connected with The Mondale Act (CAPTA, Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act), if they did.
In 1995, the couple co-authored a children's book, Petey, the Peacock Breaks a Leg, published by the Winston-Derek Publishing Company. (Now out of business.)
In 1997, Bob and Elaine co-founded a national organization similar to BUST, called SOC, Save Our Children, which immediately led to their radio show.
From 1997 - 1999, Bob and Elaine co-hosted their own radio show, The Save Our Children Show, which was simulcast in Providence, RI, and Phoenix, AZ. The show was all about discipline and antisocial children and teens, and about false allegations of physical and sexual child abuse.
In 1999, Bob and Elaine Lehman were professional “expert” guests on two national TV talk shows, The LEEZA Show and The QUEEN LATIFAH Show. Both shows were about spanking and other corporal punishments.
Elaine has also appeared on several local radio shows and TV shows, and she and Bob have given lectures to community groups.
From 1978 – 2008 - The couple co-published several international newsletters. These publications were all about discipline, antisocial behavior in juveniles and false allegations of physical and sexual child abuse.
From 2001 – 2007, the Lehmans created and maintained a website about the traditional, strict disciplines and antisocial characteristics in juveniles.
From 2004-2008: Elaine Lehman co-founded and directed the FAST, False Allegations Solutions Team, an international, educational, volunteer support group for people who have been falsely accused of child sex abuse. In 2008, Elaine resigned as director to work full-time on her book, Raise Civilized Kids: Bring Back the Disciplines. At this writing, FAST is still going strong with a new director.
2010: Raise Civilized Kids: Bring Back the Disciplines was published and released by Tate Publishing Company in Oklahoma.
